RMAYSA Challenge Soccer
Challenge level soccer is intended to be at a competitive level between Recreational soccer and Classic. There is an increased emphasis on commitment and skillll development. Players are not guaranteed equal playtime on game day as with recreational soccer. Typical Challenge teams practice around two times per week. We also expect that good work does not exclude having fun in the slightest. Challenge games are scheduled through a regional scheduling league. For our teams U-14 and younger, the league organization is Down East Soccer Club at www.DownEastSoccer.Com . The travel requirement is generally no more than 90 minutes travel from Rocky Mount for about 4 - 5 games per season. Game locations include Wilson, Greenville, Roanoke, New Bern etc. A typical challenge league year is 8-10 games in the fall and again in the spring season for the U14 and younger groups. Older teams generally compete in one season per calendar year in order not to conflict with school soccer play.
The challenge team may also choose to compete in travel tournaments and the Challenge State Cup series. Tournaments are a great experience for Challenge teams and their families. There are fine competitions as close as Raleigh and Greeneville requiring only day travel. There are also excellent tournament competitions available throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia within a three hour drive for overnight accomodations. Generally a tournament is for two days and four games. Each team makes their own determination for how much they will choose to travel for tournament play.
